Building BLAST

This file documents the use of the x86 Open64 Compiler Suite.

The Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) finds regions of local similarity between sequences. The program compares nucleotide or protein sequences to sequence databases and calculates the statistical significance of matches.

To build BLAST, you will need to download the source code, configure it, and then build it.

These steps, and any known limitations, are described in the sections below.

Building BLAST

In brief, the following steps are sufficient to build BLAST from the command line:

     First, make sure that your open64 compiler is installed and accessible

     in your user environment.

     > gunzip ncbi.tar.gz
     > tar xvf ncbi.tar

     Edit the file ncbi/platform/

     Change the line in the file:

     NCBI_CC = gcc -pipe -D_GNU_SOURCE

     NCBI_CC = opencc -D_GNU_SOURCE

     > ./ncbi/make/makedis.csh
