Client Management Tools for DMTF DASH
Skip Navigation LinksHome > Tools > DMTF DASH

Overview

DASH (Desktop and mobile Architecture for System Hardware) is a client management standard released by the DMTF (Distributed Management Task Force). DASH is a web services-based standard that can support both in-band and out-of-band management. Currently the most common use of DASH is to support out-of-band client management. Client systems that support out-of-band management help IT administrators perform tasks independent of the power state of the machine or the state of the operating system.

Examples of out-of-band management tasks include:

  • Securely starting up a system remotely, even if it is currently powered off
  • Viewing asset inventory information for a system that is powered off
  • Retrieving health information about system components even if the OS is unavailable

Tools for IT Administrators

For administrators who use Microsoft® System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), AMD has released a NEW DASH Plug-in for SCCM that has new DASH 1.1 features. The plug-in extends SCCM to support out-of-band management tasks using DASH.

DMC is a free, stand-alone, one-on-one, out-of-band console for small and midsize businesses (enterprises).

Download the software below.

Tools for Developers

AMD has collaborated with industry partners to create DMTF DASH enablement tools that help enable DASH solution providers to deliver interoperable DASH implementations. These tools can also help decrease development time and improve interoperability, helping you bring your DASH product to market more quickly and with higher quality. These DASH enablement tools are all open source and AMD welcomes collaboration on enhancing and extending these tools. (These tools were originally part of AMD's project codenamed "SIMFIRE".)

These tools include:

  • Open Test Manager (OTM) DASH Interoperability Test Suite
    • The DASH interoperability test suite can be used to test a DASH-supporting management sub-system or controller or an in-band management agent for DASH interoperability.
    • The test suite covers the full DASH technology stack, including HTTP(S) layer, WS-Man, DASH profiles, and CIM.
  • DASH Console SDK
    • The DASH Console SDK helps accelerate support for DASH in management consoles and tools
    • The SDK exposes various APIs to help developers and vendors quickly add DASH support to their products without learning the details of the DASH specification
    • Includes a DASH command line interface for Linux and Windows that can be used for scripting
  • DASH Software Reference Implementation
    • Reference implementation of DASH management controller firmware
    • Can be run on x86 hardware or virtualized environment

Can be used as a DASH target for testing DASH management consoles, tools and scripts.
