Soon, the “Barcelona” family of processors will take over from the mainstay K8 or original x86-64 family that propelled AMD to years of industry performance leadership. This new processor family delivers a wide range of new features that show a remarkable redesign of an already leading-edge x86 implementation. The subset of features described in this article has a single goal in common: speed. They are the key enhancements of greatest interest to developers.
